What is it?

The Smart City Business EcoSystems (SCB-EcoS) is a permanent forum for debates and collaboration involving the various agents capable of contributing to the articulation of a robust Smart City Ecosystem in Brazil. Representatives of:

 

  • Technology and product and service companies for cities;
  • Municipal, state and federal governments in the various thematic areas dealt with by the Institute Smart City Business America;
  • Social organizations and entities directly linked to the city market;
  • Multilateral organizations focusing on cities;
  • Development organizations, investment banks and Venture Capital;
  • Legislative and Judiciary; and
  • Teaching and research institutions.

SCB-EcoS has the following objectives:


  • To deepen the debate on the various themes involving strategic sectors for the creation of a Brazilian ecosystem of smart cities;
  • Articulate the development of urban management projects across the country so to improve the quality of life in cities;
  • Promote Brazilian technological innovation and development, with a focus on Smart City;
  • Encourage strategic collaboration and articulate specific actions that contribute to the consolidation of a Smart City model in the country;
  • Share knowledge and practices; and
  • Develop benchmarks to be used by companies - for the creation of products, platforms and services - and by cities – so to guide their demands for technologies, services and management.

  

Through committees and debate forums, the SCB-EcoS will articulate thematic and sectorial discussions that will guide the premises and objectives set out above, exercising, in a practical way, the concept of co-creation and collaboration between the main economic and social agents in Brazil

Principles and Conduct

To be part of Smart City Business EcoSystems, companies, governments and associated entities must follow the following principles and conduct:

 

  • Contemplate in all its actions, strategies and practices a strong commitment to the preservation of life, environmental sustainability and social responsibility;
  • Ensure that their projects, products, platforms or services contribute to improving the quality of life in cities, with safety, quality and fair cost/price;
  • Maintain a high level of transparency and ethics at all levels and stages, respect international anti-corruption laws and create internal mechanisms that allow for these premises;
  • Encourage mixed work formats (face-to-face and home office), with the aim of conveying into better quality of life for employees, saving time and reducing displacements, which will also positively impact city traffic;
  •  Prioritize the implementation of platforms and systems in governments and cities with a high level of interoperability, avoiding the creation of technological silos that contribute to administrative inefficiency, increased operating costs and commitment to a digital policy and efficient urban services;
  • Encourage active citizen participation and/or respect for ethnic differences and the appreciation of women;
  • Contribute, when relevant, to the development of open and collaborative technological and innovation infrastructures, if possible, through co-creation and collaboration;
  • Encourage all sectors of the organization to have a correct understanding of the concept of smart city, so that they consider in their strategic plans actions that minimize the negative impacts that will naturally be generated on citizens, regardless of the interventions or interactions carried out.

How to participate

Any public or private organization, national or international, that can contribute to the forum's objectives, as long as it adopts the principles of conduct established for all members, can be a member of Smart City Business EcoSystems. Adhesion will be by association, according to defined categories.
