Winning project #11:

Organization: Florianópolis City Hall

City: Florianópolis - State: SC

Job Title: Zero Waste City

Since the 1980s, after the closure of the landfill, Florianópolis has been a pioneer in waste management initiatives, focusing on recycling and recovery. There is strong social mobilization and monitoring to identify deficiencies and intervene.

The municipality, in addition to the conventional and selective collection of packaging and other services, more common in the Brazilian reality, has exclusive collections of organics (food fraction), greens and glass.

To intensify results and user participation, there is intense social mobilization and monitoring carried out by the municipality in the areas covered, to identify possible deficiencies and interventions. Another recent and innovative service offered is the door-to-door selective collection of greens (pruning, branches, leaves and grass), which are transformed into chopped pruning.

Another point is the treatment of waste from food production, which aims to overcome another challenge, which is to promote food and nutritional security, including encouraging the establishment of vegetable gardens in public spaces and improving the population's quality of life.

The valorization of waste also encourages the promotion of new private businesses, as is the case with remuneration for organic composting services (5 initiatives) and dry sorting (6 initiatives).

The project boosted new private businesses and established the first capital with Voluntary Glass Delivery Points in Brazil. Door-to-door glass collection generated jobs and income.

Bairro Lixo Zero, a pilot project, demonstrated a recovery of 37% of waste with recycling potential. Innovation lies in adapting services to users' needs, aiming to change the linear model of consumption to the valorization of waste.

Winning project #37:

Organization: Sorriso City Hall City: Sorriso - State: MT

Job Title: Mobility and Sustainability

Sorriso City Hall, in the State of Mato Grosso, stands out for two innovative projects related to mobility and sustainability. The first, known as SORRIMOBI, was developed internally in 2020 and is similar to Uber, but aimed at meeting the demands of municipal departments.

This system optimizes the use of vehicles, preventing them from being idle throughout the week. With a management center, the project has already generated significant savings of more than R$700,000 in new vehicle rentals or purchases. It provides a variety of services, from document deliveries to server transportation and technical visits.

The second project, entitled Programa Eco Sorriso, reflects the city's commitment to sustainability. Started in 2019, the program addresses the environmental, economic and social pillars, promoting actions such as selective collection, recycling and composting.

Currently, around 70% of the city already has door-to-door selective collection, in addition to collection points for used cooking oil in schools and early childhood education centers. Environmental education is a priority in school units, and recycling points have been established to deliver recyclable materials.

These initiatives demonstrate the innovation and technology adopted by Sorriso City Hall, which resulted in recognition as a "Zero Waste Highlight City". In addition, there was a saving of almost R$750,000 for public coffers, avoiding 20 new vehicle rentals. This also contributed to reducing the emission of polluting gases and raising awareness among the population about the importance of selective collection and preservation of the environment.

It is worth highlighting the partnership between the General Comptroller of the Municipality, Municipal Secretariat of Social Assistance, Municipal Secretariat of Works and Public Services and Municipal Secretariat of Agriculture, Environment, Science and Technology.

Winning project #42:

Organization: Sentran City: São José dos Campos - State: SP

Job Title: Digitization of Circulation Requests (AETC's) and Inspection of Truck Traffic in the City of Jacareí - SP

The installation of a toll plaza near the city of Jacareí, located in the State of São Paulo, with around 235 thousand inhabitants, triggered a significant increase in truck traffic in the urban center. Toll evasion resulted in intense congestion, causing an alarming increase from 6% to 18% in accidents involving trucks and damage to urban infrastructure.

To address this challenge, the city held public hearings and implemented a truck route, but the in-person authorization process required more than 2,000 visits in just one month, requiring considerable financial and human resources.

Sentran then developed an automated circulation authorization system through a website and an app, simplifying the process and reducing queues. Furthermore, it created an interface between radars, license plate capture points and the authorization platform to monitor compliance with authorizations, improving the effectiveness of urban traffic management.

The automation of the circulation authorization request process and the integration of municipal inspection equipment represent crucial innovations. Sentran's solution simplified the process for users and increased the inspection capacity of Jacareí city hall.

The implementation of Sentran's solution resulted in a significant reduction in the daily volume of trucks circulating in the city, with a drop of 62%. This contributed to improving traffic flow, reducing pavement maintenance costs, reducing noise and pollution in the urban center and eliminating fatal accidents involving trucks.

The successful implementation of this solution demonstrated the benefits of technology in optimizing urban traffic management and promoting safer and more efficient circulation.

Job Title: SUS as a Tool for a Smart City

The introduction of telemedicine rooms in basic health units in Brazil represents a milestone in the search for innovative solutions to the challenges faced by the Unified Health System (SUS).

This initiative aims to overcome structural barriers and significantly improve the provision of health services to the population, contributing to transforming the city into an intelligent environment. The implementation of these rooms allowed expanding access to specialized health services, reducing waiting lists and diagnosis and treatment times, especially in less favored regions. Furthermore, it highlights the transformative potential of technology in the healthcare sector and highlights the importance of innovation to develop creative and effective solutions.

In one year of implementation, 18,754 appointments were made, serving mainly female patients between 40 and 59 years old.

With an NPS of 92 and a resolution of 93.66%, the solution demonstrates high efficiency and user satisfaction. Furthermore, by circumventing geographic and logistical limitations, telemedicine has emerged as a viable solution to ensure equitable distribution of healthcare resources. This approach not only simplified the management of local demands, but also strengthened the adaptability of the health system to the changing needs of the population.

The benefits of telemedicine go beyond immediate results, positively impacting communities and the local economy. By reducing waiting times and expanding access to healthcare, a significant decrease in absenteeism rates from work and school is expected in the medium and long term. This will contribute to a healthier and more productive population, as well as relieving pressure on transport systems, providing substantial savings for families.
